A 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling south on I-77 failed to adequately reduce speed and collided with a southbound 2011 Volvo semi-truck without a trailer. This collision caused the semi-truck to collide with a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jared Quincey Nelson, 27, of Elkin, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Volvo, Dennis Scott Bolding, 48, of Statesville, received minor injuries.
