Iredell County Interstate Collision Claims Life This Morning

April 9, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Statesville – On Wednesday, April 9, at approximately 6:35 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on I-77 South near I-40 (exit 52).  A 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling south on I-77 failed to adequately reduce speed and collided with a southbound 2011 Volvo semi-truck without a trailer.  This collision caused the semi-truck to collide with a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jared Quincey Nelson, 27, of Elkin, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Volvo, Dennis Scott Bolding, 48, of Statesville, received minor injuries.

The driver of the Tahoe was not injured.

The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.  No charges will be filed in this case.
