Iredell County Drug Sting Snares Two Stony Point Men

The Iredell County Sheridf’s Office recently completed a major drug sting during which some 28 suspects were arrested and charged with drug trafficking offenses.

Of those charged, two suspects were from Stony Point.

37-year old Devin Lee Bates is charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver scehdule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bates is currently serving a three-month sentence in Robeson County for felony larceny.

David Earl Welch, age 35, is charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance. He’s being held without bond in the Iredell County Detention Center. In July, Welch was given a 30 month suspended sentence in Iredell County for the same charge.
