Iredell County Deputy Dies While On Duty

A veteran Iredell County Deputy died while on duty on Friday, October 7th.

Sheriff’s Deputy Marty Joe Lewis was serving the staff and students of Scotts Elementary School as a Resource Officer when he experienced a critical medical incident.

School Staff members, members of the Iredell County Rescue Squad, and various volunteer fire department personnel, along with Iredell County EMS personnel, performed CPR but he was pronounced deceased.

Deputy Lewis is a 20-year veteran of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
