Iredell County Authorities Confirm Name Of Weekend Drowning Victim

June 17, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

The victim of a weekend drowning on Lake Norman has been identified as 63-year-old Charles William Crowe Jr. of Sherills Ford.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office released information this morning indicating that around 5:54 pm on Saturday, Iredell County Lake Enforcement Deputies were dispatched to the area of Main Channel Marker 20, on Lake Norman in reference to a possible drowning involving two individuals in the water. The caller said they found a female in the water struggling to stay afloat.

When Lake Patrol Deputies arrived on the scene, they were able to get the female out of the water. She said that there was a male in the water, and she could not find him. The deputies learned that the two people were boating when the man went into the water and started experiencing physical issues. The female then jumped in to assist him and started having health issues as well.

The deputies transported the female to the closest dock, near Supreme Court, for further medical evaluation and care. The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission was called to investigate the incident. Law enforcement and fire departments around Lake Norman assisted with this incident.
Inclement weather suspended search and recovery efforts after sunset. Recovery operations resumed early on Sunday (June 15). As additional information was received, a smaller search area was established, leading to the recovery of Crowe’s body.
