Inmate Dies At Burke County Jail

An inmate being held in the Burke County Jail died Tuesday evening.

Around 6:30 pm, detention staff while making a routine check, found 40-year-old Jack Bradley Smith of Morganton unresponsive in his cell. Staff administered C.P.R. until Burke County EMS arrived. Smith was declared deceased shortly after 7pm.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation.
