An illegal burn scorched around a third of an acre Tuesday evening in Taylorsville.
NC Forest Service Ranger David Huffman says that units were dispatched to a location off Happy Plains Road around 6:40 pm.
The fire spread into a grassy area then a wooded area and was approaching a couple structures before it was contained according to Huffman.
Taylorsville, Hidddenite, Wittenburg and Ellendale Fire Departments responded along with the NC Forest Service.
The investigation into possible charges is ongoing.
The entire region is under a Burn Ban until further notice.
