Throughout the Labor Day weekend starting Friday, September 4th through Monday, September 7th, Troop F of the North Caroline Highway Patrol conducted a special enforcement weekend to combat impaired driving. Troop F which is a 10 County Troop consisting of Burke, Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany, Caldwell, Watauga, Iredell, Alexander, Catawba, and Lincoln counties.
Throughout the weekend, a large majority of Troopers were scheduled to work a late shift in order to have the coverage to patrol all areas in their assigned counties. While troopers conducted several saturation patrols and checkpoints, the North Carolina Forensic Test for Alcohol Branch provided several ” Boose it & Lose it” busses that were on scene in 3 counties to help Troopers that were conducting chemical analysis.
Once the special operation ended, Troopers had arrested 83 individuals with Driving While Impaired, 837 citations issued for speed violations and 248 restraint violations. In total, the NCSHP charged over 2700 violations.
