Hickory Police Release Update On Wednesday Accident Where Two Juveniles Were Struck

As reported on Thursday, two Hickory High School students were struck by a vehicle and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Hickory Police has released the following

On May 14th at approximately 2:30 p.m. Hickory Police were called to a reported traffic crash involving two juveniles struck by a vehicle. The juveniles, both age 15, were attempting to cross 2nd Street NE at the intersection of 13th Ave NE.

The two juveniles attempted to cross 2nd Street NE despite the pedestrian signal displaying the do not walk indicator. A 2017 Chevrolet traveling south on 2nd Street NE traveled into the intersection and struck the two juveniles. The traffic signal in the vehicle’s direction of travel was green at the time of the accident.

The two juveniles were each transported from the scene by Catawba County EMS to an area hospital. One of the juveniles was treated and released. The other juvenile remains hospitalized in stable condition.

During the investigation, officers determined the Chevrolet was traveling at 45 mph at the time of the collision. The posted speed limit on 2nd Street NE is 35 mph.

The driver of the 2017 Chevrolet, Avianna Damia Danner, 20, of Morganton, was charged with speeding and for not having a valid driver’s license.
