Hickory Man Killed In Iredell County Collision

Statesville- On Friday, August 7th at approximately 03:09 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on I-40 Westbound near the 160 mile marker, in Iredell County. A 2021 Ram 3500 collided with a 2002 Ram 1500 that was disabled in the emergency lane.

The driver of the 2002 Ram 1500, Ernest Duncan Ames IV, 45, of Hickory was in the rear cab of his truck in the emergency lane and was ejected after the collision. Mr. Ames succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.
 
The driver of the 2021 Ram 3500, Kevin Guadalupe Quintana, 28, of Mount Airy, appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit while also under the influence of alcohol.
 
Mr. Quintana was arrested by Troopers on-scene and was charged with Felony Death by Motor vehicle and several other charges. He was transported to the Iredell County Magistrates Office where he was issued a $750,000 secured bond and then booked into the Iredell County Detention Center.
