A Hickory man has been charged following a fatal shooting in Burke County.

According to a press release, Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:40 p.m. Saturday to a reported shooting at a residence in the 7800 block of River Rock Road in Hickory. A caller told dispatchers there had been a fight and believed someone had been shot.

When Deputies arrived, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim died at the scene.

Burke County Criminal Investigations Division Detectives conducted an investigation and obtained a warrant charging 40-year-old Kenneth Lee Potter of Hickory with murder.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
