Hibriten 28
Alexander Central 17
Hibriten’s Coby Wilson threw three touchdown passes to lead the Panthers over Alexander Central Friday night in Taylorsville.
Wilson was listed as doubtful for the game after missing the week before with a high ankle injury. He didn’t start but when he entered the game in the Panther’s third series, it was obvious his decision making skills were on point and his arm was accurate. Wilson was 4-4 for 81 yards, 3 of the passes were good for touchdowns. He entered the game with over 900 yards rushing, he never ran the ball once, instead he ran the option with his running not a part of the mix.
ACHS took the early lead when Corey Lawson hit a 29-yard field goal with 5:41 left in the opening quarter.
Hibriten answered quickly with a 26-yard run for a touchdown by fullback Jake Absher at 1:08 left in the opening period.
The Blue and Gold would block a punt and get a 1 yard run from QB Tanner Moore to put the home-standing Cougars up 10-7
The Panthers scored again in the second quarter when Wilson hit John Patterson from 30 yards giving the visitors from Lenoir a 14-10 lead at the half.
Wilson found Gerard Felder for a 22 yard score early in the 3rd quarter, it was 21-10.
The Cougars were stopped at the one-yard line and Hibriten took possession late in the 3rd quarter. Hibriten would fumble on their own 4. Three plays later AC got a 2-yard run for score by freshman Sawyer Chapman-Mays. It was 21-17 in favor of Hibriten.
The Panthers put the game away with 6:09 in the final period when Coby Wilson hit Dillan Earp on a dump pass from 11 yards.
Hibriten out gained AC 279-198. The Panthers improve to 3-1 in league play and 4-5 overall. They will host South Caldwell next Friday.
AC drops to 2-2 and 4-5 with a trip to Freedom set for the regular season finale.
