LENOIR, NC — West Caldwell High School is proud to announce the appointment of George Saffos as the new Head Coach of Warrior Football, effective April 14, 2026. Coach Saffos brings over two decades of coaching excellence, championship experience, and a deep-rooted commitment to North Carolina athletics to the Warrior family.
A 1994 graduate of West Iredell High School, Coach Saffos earned his degree in History from Appalachian State University, where he gained invaluable foundational experience working with the Mountaineer football program.
Coach Saffos’s professional career is marked by a consistent track record of success across several notable North Carolina programs:
Pine Forest High School (1999–2006): Coached football, wrestling, and track. He contributed to multiple football playoff runs and a conference championship, while also leading the wrestling team to a conference title. His leadership earned him Conference Coach of the Year honors in both wrestling and track.
West Iredell High School (2006–2014; 2018–Present): Served two successful stints at his alma mater, contributing to numerous football playoff appearances.
Alexander Central High School (2014–2018): Played a key role in multiple playoff runs and a conference championship.
Beyond the sidelines, Coach Saffos is grounded by his family and faith. He is supported by his wife, Kim Saffos, and their children: George Saffos, Emily Saffos, Brady Doucette, and Kylee Doucette. The family are active members of Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville and also have two dogs, Rosie and Yosef. They look forward to bringing that same spirit of community and service to the West Caldwell family.
