A residential fire on Mineral Springs Mountain in Burke County sent one firefighter to the hospital Saturday evening.
Around 7:20 p.m. on April 18, Burke County 911 received a call reporting a fire on Mountain Ridge Circle in Valdese. Lovelady Fire and Rescue was first on scene and found a working structure fire.
Crews quickly launched an aggressive attack and called for additional manpower. Multiple agencies responded to assist, including Valdese, George Hildebran, Triple Community, Icard Township, Salem, and North Catawba fire departments. Burke County EMS was also on scene to provide medical support and firefighter rehabilitation.
First-arriving crews encountered heavy smoke conditions with fire located in the attic. The fire spread rapidly and presented additional challenges on scene.
Crews worked diligently to contain the fire while also overcoming limitations in available water supply. Through efforts with the assisting agencies, the fire was brought under control.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Their name has not been released. The fire remains under investigation by the Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office. No further details are available at this time.
