Around three acres of woodland burned last week when a controlled burn got out of control in Alexander County.
According to NC Forest Service Ranger David Huffman, the fire escaped containment Thursday afternoon off Jake Reese Court and Basin Creek Drive near Barrett Mountain.
The gusting winds caused the fire to spread according to Huffman.
Ellendale Firefighters along with the NC Forest Service responded.
