Female Inmate Found Dead In Iredell County Jail

A woman facing a murder charge was found dead Thursday morning in the Iredell County Detention Center in Statesville.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell says 19-year old Jessica Cheyenne Nichols of Mooresville was discovered unresponsive in her cell. Emergency measures were activated, CPR was administered but Nichols could not be revived. The inmate was under 24 hour video surveillance.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is taking over the investigation which is procedure.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.

Nichols has been in custody since mid-August in connection with the death of 23-year old Jacob Dean Koury of Cornelius on Aug. 11.
