Fatal Shooting Reported In Wilkes County

A Wilkes County man is dead following a shooting at a home in Boomer. The incident is reported to have taken place the early evening hours of Tuesday, November 4th.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s office says David A. Phillips, 47, of Boomer died at the scene.

A press release says the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office responded to Happy Trails Lane in the Boomer Community in reference to a disturbance with a subject trying to break into a home. While enroute, Deputies were informed by Wilkes County Communications that a shooting had just occurred at the location.

Responding Deputies found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The SBI is assisting in the investigation. No other details including a possible suspect has been released.
