Fatal Shooting In Hickory, Man in Custody

As reported Thursday morning, 32-year old Joe Angel Rangel Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police and charged with possession of firearm by a felon and resisting a public officer. Rangel is also at the least, considered a person interest in a fatal shooting.

Hickory Police Officers responded to a report of a man suffering a gunshot wound Wednesday evening in the parking lot of King Hickory Furniture on 15th Street Drive NE.

40-year old Luis Alonso Torres was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after police arrived around 8:10 pm.

Rangel was found nearby and taken into custody. He also was suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

The investigation has revealed that Torres and Rangel were involved in an altercation.

Rangel is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center with a secured bond listed at $54,000.
