Lincolnton – On Saturday, September 02, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Lincoln County on Old Lincolnton Crouse Road near NC 182. A 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southwest on Old Lincolnton Crouse Road and drove off the left side of the highway. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a utility pole.
The driver of the motorcycle, Robert Kelly Lewis, 41, of Cherryville, NC, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
During the on-scene investigation, Old Lincolnton Crouse Road was closed in the area for one hour. The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision.
