A intense thunderstorm roared through the Bethlehem Community Tuesday afternoon leaving in it’s wake a wide swath of damage.
According to Alexander County Emergency Management Director Russell Greene, at least four homes have large trees on them. The front entrance to Bethlehem Pharmacy was shattered during the heavy winds. No injuries have been reported according to Greene.
The storm was moving very fast, the winds according to some estimates reached 50-70 miles per hour. Emergency crews are working to remove trees, tree limbs, and other debris from roadways including Highway 127 which remains closed at this time. Duke Energy is restoring service to customers. Greene emphasized citizens to not assume Duke Energy knows your service is out. “Call them and get your location on their list” he said.
