NEWTON – On Saturday, April 1, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on NC 150 near Island Ford Road. A 2022 GMC Sierra was traveling west on NC 150, crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left, struck a fence, and then struck a tree.
The driver, John Allen Martin, 59, of Conover, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor.
