Course Records Set At Rocky Face Event

Three course records were broken at the 2nd Annual Run for the Dogs Trail Run on November 3rd at Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area in Alexander County. The race attracted 34 runners. Proceeds from the race benefited the Alexander County Animal Shelter, which received 250 pounds of pet food from race participants. This race was held in conjunction with the Rocky Face Rock Climbing Festival. Participants competed in the 4-mile, 8-mile, and 12-mile events (one lap, two laps, or three laps).

For the 12-mile event, the winner was Alex Griggs, who broke the course record by 5:31 with a time of 1:33:30. Second place was earned by Shawn Lancaster (1:59:20), followed by Shawn Pennell in third place (2:00:23). The male master’s award went to Marc Buhrmaster with a time of 2:42:35. For the female division, Grace Mangiacapre of Winston-Salem beat the course record by 22:52 minutes with a time of 2:00:53. The second-place female was Lisa Loveday with a time of 2:53:06.

For the 8-mile event, David Beatty placed first with a time of 1:23:46, followed by Robert Voss (1:29:05), and course record-holder Randy Whaley (1:29:19). The male master’s award was presented to Scott Millsaps with a time of 1:42:36. The top female finishers were Aundrea Beck (2:07:26) and Lauren Tedder (2:07:40)

For the 4-mile event, Daniel Marin broke the course record by 1:18 with a time of 34:59. Second-place was earned by Scott McLelland (37:47), followed by Caleb Bunn (42:10). The male master’s award was awarded to David McCunn with a time of 42:59. In the female division, Julie McMakin earned top honors with a time of 49:23, followed by Colleen Williams (52:09), and Frankie Cook (52:20). The female master’s award was presented to Melissa McCarraher with a time of 1:10:12.

Mark your calendars for next year’s “Run for the Dogs” to be held on the first Saturday in
November. Alexander County and Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area appreciate everyone who participated in this year’s event.
