Two teams coming off losses will collide this evening in Taylorsville. Two teams that need wins, two teams that have a lot of tough games ahead, two teams that have yet to really show their best, will collide tonight in Taylorsville.
Alexander Central (2-1) hosts (1-2) South Iredell at Glenn Wilson Field at Cougar Stadium. The Cougars let a 14 point lead evaporate in a loss to Statesville last Friday. That loss was still stinging AC coach Buth Carter earlier this week. “I really think were were better than they were but when we got that 14 point lead in the third quarter, it was like we kicked it out of gear” the coach said. “The kids have to learn that you lose games when you do that and when we got behind in the fourth quarter, we couldn’t get it back in gear” when reflecting on a 49-35 loss. “Our kids are smart, they know what they have to do and I think they will” he offered. It won’t be easy against an angry team from Troutman.
South Iredell (1-2) is coming off a 49-21 loss at Lake Norman. That loss left some of their fans scratching their heads and frustrated. Coach Scott Miller has a team with a wealth of depth but has yet to hit their stride in 2019. A tough early season schedule that if anything gets tougher with Davie County, Greensboro Dudley, and Statesville on the horizon after the game tonight. South Iredell has used a trio of quarterbacks this season and a rotation of backs. They have talent, the defense has been a mixed bag. They shut out West Iredell but allowed 49 last week. Add to the mix that South Iredell has built a 10-2 series lead against ACHS. This is the first meeting since 2016 when the Vikings outgunned the Cougars 55-27 in Troutman.
Cougar senior safety/ wing back A.J. Miller has missed the last game and a half with an ankle injury and is questionable for tonight. His absence is felt on both sides of the ball as well as his energy. Truth be told, a talented Cougar team has yet to put four quarter together this season, they need it this evening.
Kickoff is at 7:30. The Countdown to Cougar Kickoff begins at 6:30 on B86 Radio and 860wacb.com.
