Cougars Go Quietly In Round I

November 8, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Round I 6A West Regional Football Playoffs

Statesville 28 Alexander Central 3

Statesville: The host Greyhounds won an opening round playoff game Friday night by beating Alexander Central for the second-time this season.

Statesville took the opening kick and drove 78 yards in 11 plays, capped by QB Koda Harrington’s 3-yard run.

The Cougars put together their lone-productive drive of the evening and answered with a 30-yard field goal from Aiden Daigle. The score was 7-3 and the Cougar offense was reduced to scarcely more than a series of 3-down and outs for the remainder of the evening.

The game was 14-3 in favor the home team at half, Statesville would score a pair of touchdowns in the second half to cap the win and improve to 8-3. They will head to Gastonia Ashbrook next Friday in Round II.

For Alexander Central, it was another night of offensive futility as they gained only 103 yards (49 on the opening drive) including just 5 yards through the air.

The Cougars finish 3-8 in Coach Chris Marshall’s first season.
