Cougar Stadium Turf Project To Begin Next Week

June 19, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

The project to add a turf playing surface and a new track at Cougar Stadium on the campus of Alexander Central High School will begin next week.

Many citizens have expressed concern that work had yet to begin given that assurances were expressed that the rug would be ready for the start of the upcoming football season.

Alexander County Board of Education member Scott Bowman said Wednesday morning that he was also a bit concerned given the time-factor for the project. Bowman says that work will begin next week (probably on Tuesday, June 25th) and the plan according to the project manager, is that the turf will be ready for the start of the upcoming season.

The Cougars are scheduled to open the 2024 season at home on August 23rd vrs Statesville.

The cost of the project was provided through a state grant.

The completion of the new track will not be ready until later in the year.
