Taylorsville: Alexander Central (5-2) got 17 points from point guard Malayah Adams and beat Newton-Conver Monday night. Adams added 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Faith Burch totaled 10 pts and 7 rebounds and Meredith Wike added 9 and 15. Newton-Conover who drops to 5-1 was led by Hadleigh Swagger with 16 points. AC out-rebounded the visitors 47-29.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening 2:30 but the Cougars were able to pull even by the end of the opening quarter and never looked back. Jayon Connor led AC with 25 points and 17 rebounds. Dillon Church added 13 for the Cougars. Newton-Conover falls to 4-2 and was paced by Owen Cannon’s 13 points. The Blue and Gold owned the boards 43-22. Alexander Central improves to 3-4.
