After a fast start to the non-conference portion of their schedules, Alexander Central’s Basketball teams open Northwestern Conference play tonight at Ashe County.
Varsity Women
The Lady Cougars are 12-1 with the lone defeat to Newton Conover in the Championship of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Holiday Tournament in December. The Lady Cougars had beaten Newton Conover earlier in the season.
Alexander Central is led by senior Chesney Stikeleather’s 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest. Senior Julianna Walter averages 10.5 points and 7 rebounds.

Varsity Men
Despite dropping their opener to South Iredell (which they later avenged) in November, the Cougar men have gone 12-2. The other loss was to Hickory in the Holiday Tournament Championship Game.
Senior Evan Presnell leads AC with 17.5 points per game. Avery Cook averages 9.4, Dusty Sigmon adds 8.6 points and leads the team pulling down 6.4 boards per game. Grove Lowrance is contributing 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds.
