The Alexander Central High School Athletic Department announces that Joe Cornwell has stepped down as Head Cross Country Coach effective immediately.
Coach Cornwell has served as our Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Head Coach since 2007.
Cornwell will remain at Alexander Central in his role as an Art teacher while also continuing to serve as an Assistant Coach for the Track and Field program.
After announcing his decision to step down as Head Coach, Cornwell commented “I have come to realize that it is my time to take a new path in life, and that is my reason for leaving. I would like to thank the school and the community for trusting me and supporting me with such an important position. I have been involved in countless students, runners, coaches, and parents’ lives throughout my time here, and I am extremely thankful for those opportunities.”
ACHS Athletic Director Nathan Robinson shared his thoughts by saying “Coach Cornwell is one of those rare figures who doesn’t just teach a sport, but instills a philosophy that stays with his athletes long after they have hung up their racing shoes. He lives the “Blue Collar Gold Standards” moto every day and has built a legacy here at ACHS with our Cross Country program. We are grateful for the number of lives he has impacted in that role. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
The search for a new Cross Country Head Coach has begun and anybody interested is asked to please submit their resume/application to Nathan Robinson at nrobinson@alexander.k12.nc.us.
