Conover Man Surrenders After Fatal Hit-And -Run

49-year-old James Derrick Scott of Hickory has been arrested by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with felony hit and run. The charge is in connection to a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on U.S. 70 in Catawba County on Thursday, April 13th.

63-year-old Raymond Lee Gentry of Conover was killed as the result of a crash at 10:40 p.m. on April 13th on U.S. 70 near Penny Road. Gentry, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Scott was arrested after turning himself in at the Catawba County Magistrate’s Office on Friday, April 21st.  He has been released under a $50,000 secured bond.
