Noah Daniel Garrett
Twenty-eight-year-old Noah Daniel Garrett was sentenced Monday, March 2, during Catawba County Superior Court. The Honorable Judge Sherri W. Elliott imposed the active prison term after Garrett entered a global guilty plea covering offenses committed in Catawba, Avery, Mitchell, Iredell, and Gaston counties between October 2023 and March 2025.
Garrett pleaded guilty to felony obtaining property by false pretenses involving more than $100,000, 16 additional counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, three counts of felony conversion, two counts of felony larceny, felony conspiracy, and felony possession of stolen goods.
Authorities say many of the crimes involved the misappropriation of heavy machinery and attempts to fraudulently resell that equipment, along with fraudulent activity targeting individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Garrett (pictured) will serve his sentence in the custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections and must also pay nearly $265,000 in restitution to businesses and individuals. Some of that restitution will be shared with a co-defendant.
The cases were investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies across the affected counties. Assistant District Attorney Howard Wellons prosecuted the case with assistance from Legal Assistant Meredith Scott, along with prosecutors from Avery, Mitchell, Iredell, and Gaston counties.
