CONOVER- On Wednesday, November 12th at approximately 8:07 p.m., The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on I-40 near mile marker 130, in Catawba County.
A 1995 Honda Civic was traveling West on I-40, drove off the right side of the roadway and collided with several trees. The driver of the Honda, Joe Xiong, 38, of Conover, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center by EMS, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The initial Investigation indicates speed to be a contributing factor in the collision.
