Claremont Man Crashes After Vehicle Chase In Iredell And Alexander Counties

A Catawba County man is in Alexander County custody after leading law enforcement on a lengthy chase overnight.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jonathan Lee Eckard age 35, of Claremont. The pursuit entered Alexander County on US 64 at a high rate of speed. Alexander County Deputies took over with assistance from Taylorsville Police and the NC Highway Patrol. The suspect vehicle driven by Eckard continued onto Highway 127 and Blankenship Road before leaving the roadway on Teague Town Road. He refused to cooperate and comply with law enforcement. One Alexander County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was struck, sustaining very minor damage according to Sheriff Chad Pennell.

Eckard is charged with the following

Felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehcile
Careless and reckless driving
Failure to stop at red light
Driving with license revoked
Assault on a law enforcement officer
Three counts of resisting arrest.

Eckard is being held without bond in the Alexander County Jail.
