Taylorsville: It was worth the wait.
Junior 2b Kenzie Church blasted a Walk-Off Grand Slam Homer to send Alexander Central to Round IV of the state softball playoffs in a game that was suspended from Tuesday night.
The contest resumed on Wednesday with the score tied at 5 in the 7th inning after lightening forced the action to halt on Tuesday.
The Lady Cougars loaded the bases in the 8th sending Church to the plate. She hit a no-doubter over the wall in right-center giving Alexander Central their 3rd win in 4 games against their dreaded rivals from Caldwell County this season.
AC pitcher Laney Wike got the win after she worked her way out of a jam in the top of the 8th thanks to a double play.
ACHS is now 21-4 and will face Marvin Ridge on Friday at Central Park. Marvin Ridge is 21-3 on the season and earned the trip to Alexander County with a 11-1 rout of Cuthbertson Tuesday night.
