Charlotte Man Gets Prison Time For Wilkes County Shooting

July 28, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Nasir Malik Guilford

A Charlotte man will serve a minimum of 73 months and a maximum of 100 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm within an enclosure with intent to incite fear in Wilkes Superior Court.

Nasir Malik Guilford, 22, of Charlotte, was sentenced to an additional 6-29 months in prison, suspended, with 36 months supervised probation.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds but recovered according to court documents.

Guilford was originally charged with attempted first-degree murder by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office but the charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement. Charges of conspiracy and going armed to the terror of the public were also dropped.

Deputies charged Guilford and Marcello Marquis Meaders, 21, of North Wilkesboro in connection with a December 28, 2024, shooting on Gentry Street in the Fairplains community.

Judge William A. Wood handed Meaders the same sentence Guilford received, except he got 18 months of supervised probation, in Wilkes Superior Court on March 30. Meaders entered Alford pleas, which means he pleaded guilty while not admitting guilt, to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm within an enclosure with intent to incite fear.

Meaders was arrested initially and later Guilford, but both were apprehended in Chester County, South Carolina.
