Claremont– On Sunday, September 1, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Shiloh Road near Buffalo Shoals Road. A 2010 Nissan Titan was traveling south on Shiloh, when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road, and struck a tree.
The driver, Jairo Ismael Flores, 31, of Catawba, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, Shiloh Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
