Catawba County Man Charged With Stealing Telecommunication Cables

A Catawba County man is facing charges involving the theft of telecommunications cable.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office arrested 48-year-old Robert Gerald Robinette Jr. of Dawn Ct., Claremont, on Monday. He was charged with felonies that include injuring utility wires or fixtures, injuring property involving nonferrous metal valued at $10,000 or more, injuring property to obtain nonferrous metal, and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Arrest documents indicate the suspect used a power saw to cut cable lines used for the transmission of telephone, broadband, broadcast, or cable telecommunications. He allegedly sold the metal to a scrapyard.

Robinette is being held in the custody of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office with a listed bond set for $200,000.
