A Lexington man is facing charges after a carjacking led to an Amber Alert, according to officials with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

An official with the city of Lexington said the children were taken in a car without permission on Monday morning. Both were found a short time later in Burke County.

The suspect, Ja’von Miller, fled the scene in Burke County with the two children, but deputies were able to quickly detain him. During the encounter, Miller, 22, assaulted a deputy before being taken into custody.

Officials said Miller has been charged with two counts of second-degree kidnapping, as well as felony assault inflicting physical injury on a law enforcement officer, felony common law robbery, misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

Miller was issued a secured bond of $100,000 and is due in court on July 21.
