Connelly Springs – On Monday, July 1, at approximately 6:10 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on NC 18 near Miller Bridge Road. A Honda motorcycle was traveling north on NC 18, crossed the centerline, collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Express van, and caught on fire.
The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the van, Christopher Lee Wayne Richard, 31, of Vale, was not injured.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
