Morganton– On Friday, February 9, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on US 64 near Fisher Davis Road. A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on US 64, drove off the right side of the road, and struck several trees.
The driver of the Cruze, Stephanie Talmelia Woods, 39, of Rutherfordton, NC, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for over an hour.
