The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide.
On Thursday around noon, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 160 Block of Stephens Road in Morganton in reference to shots fired.
Deputies were told by neighbors they had heard multiple gunshots coming from the residence. Officers made entry into the home and located Rita Hoglen deceased.
Hoglen’s husband, Gerald Hoglen, was immediately identified as a suspect and located at Chester Avenue in Morganton.
Gerald Hoglen was found deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is ongoing.
