Burke County Deputies Arrest Man After Home Invasion

On June 20, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Buckworth Circle Trail in Morganton regarding a home invasion and assault. The suspect was identified as Joseph Carl Rhubright, 44, who is currently homeless.

According to the investigation, Rhubright entered the victim’s home, where he accused the victim of stealing from him. The situation escalated as Rhubright pushed the victim to the ground, threatened him with a kitchen knife, and stole $20 in cash and a tablet before fleeing the scene. The victim was evaluated by Burke County EMS but declined further treatment.

Rhubright was located and served with two outstanding warrants. He faces charges of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault and Battery. Appearing before a Magistrate, Rhubright was given a $50,000 secured bond, with a court date set for Monday, June 23.
