North Iredell High School Football Coach Andy Howell has resigned.
In his four seasons, the Raiders were 12-29 including last Friday’s loss to Wilkes Central. The Eagles stormed back to win the game scoring 34 unanswered point after North led 23-0 at half.
The decision to step aside was family related, according to Howell. He said his separation and the process of starting divorce proceedings, coupled with the demands of being a head football coach, were taking a mental toll and having an adverse effect.
“Was it something that was a kneejerk reaction? No, it wasn’t,” Howell said. “I tried. It didn’t work.
Assistant coach Kent Millsaps was promoted to head coach on an interim basis. His first game in that new role will be this Friday at West Iredell.
