
Chanceler Timothy Johnson
At 3:22 am, Alexander County 911 got a call regarding a domestic situation at 227 Lail Ln. in the Bethlehem Community. Deputies from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office responded to find a man who had been inside the residence with a female and a child. The woman and child had fled the home.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to cooperate. After a period of more than two hours, the subject surrendered to Deputies.
25-year-old Chanceler Timothy Johnson was taken into custody. Johnson had sustained a cut, the result of some broken glass inside the home. He was taken to an area medical facility for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Johnson is awaiting trial in Catawba County following a fatal crash. On September 9, 2023 Johnson allegedly led a Hickory Police Officer on a high-speed chase. He was reported to be operating a motorcycle at around 100 mph. While in pursuit, the Officer’s vehicle struck a van driven by 38-year-old Cynthia Nicole Lail of Hickory. She, along with her 12-year-old son Michael Lail, died as result of the collision. The Officer was not seriously injured.
The suspect, Johnson was reported to have fled the scene before surrendering to authorities on September 19, 2023. He was charged with two-counts of felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle causing death.
Johnson has been placed in the Catawba County Detention Center.
