An Alexander County Poultry operation sustained significant damage in a fire Thursday afternoon. Initially units from Sugar Loaf, Ellendale, and Taylorsville responded to 1088 Gil Childers Road. Eventually every department in the county provided assistance. The operation is owned by Tim Marlowe according to Alexander County Fire Marshall Russell Greene.
One house of the four located on the site sustained significant damage but “our people really did a fantastic job and saved the structure, it’s completely salvageable” according to Greene. The operation was not occupied at the time of the fire but it was scheduled to be stocked early next week. Greene says the building can be repaired, his estimate of damage is around $50,000. At this time the cause is undetermined but Greene is leaning toward an electrical issue.
No injuries were reported.
