An active wildfire has charred least 250 acres of land in western Wilkes County as of late Saturday evening. The fire is located near Old Highway 16 along the Ashe County line. Multiple Fire units from the area are working the fire along with the NC Forestry Service.
Another fire has consumed in excess of 180 acres in Burke County. At least one building has been destroyed.
An estimated 100-plus cars, trucks, and other commercial vehicles sustained heavy damage in the blaze according to the Burke County Government website. In total, 25 fire departments from Burke, Catawba, Caldwell, McDowell and Alexander Counties responded, along with personnel from the NC Forestry Service.
The entire state of North Carolina is under a strict burn ban. All previous burn permits have been voided.
