Taylorsville: Alexander Central scored 6 runs late to pull away from Ashe County in the Northwestern Conference opener Tuesday night at Central Park. The duo of Kyla Hamby and Kensley Davis combined for 5 hits and 6 runs scored. Both homered with Hamby going 3 of 3. The Lady Cougars, suffering some recent lapses on defense went without an error. Laney Wike on her 18th birthday got the win in the circle. AC is 7-1 and 1-0 in conference.

Taylorsville: The Cougars exploded for 7 runs in the 5th inning to win. Carter Bowman got the win going 5 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned. Freshman Gunnar Johnson drove-in 4 runs for ACHS. Maddix Reese had 2 runs batted-in. The Cougars open league play with a win and improve to 5-4 overall.
