Assault Charged Filed Against Prison Inmate

Following an incident and investigation at the Alexander Correctional Institute in Taylorsville, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has charged an inmate.

33-year old Mark Andrew Welch was charged with Possession of Weapon by a Prisoner, Assault With Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Violation of Habitual Felon Status.

Welch is serving a 12 year sentence for robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping following a 2013 conviction in Wake County.
