Alexander County Teen Dies In Head-On Collision

August 30, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Hiddenite –On Saturday, August 30, at approximately 10:50 am, the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Alexander County on Sharpe Mill Road near Johnson Farm Road.  A 1991 Chevrolet S-10 traveling west on Sharpe Mill Road crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2000 Ford Ranger.

The driver of the S-10, Jacob Elijah Huffman, 17, of Hiddenite, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ranger, Kimberly Smith Bebber, 56, of Taylorsville, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.  No charges will be filed in this case.
