Alexander County’s unemployment rate has skyrocketed to over 20 percent !
The North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor & Economic Analysis Division released the unemployment figures for all 100 North Carolina counties during the month of April earlier this week. Since the COVID-19 layoffs and business closings, Alexander County has seen an increase from 3.5 percent in March to 20.1 percent in the latest report. Going back to February, Alexander County had the second lowest unemployment in North Carolina at 3 percent. The April report showed the county with the second highest in the state. Only Dare County was higher than Alexander at 24.5 percent.
Catawba County reported 18.8 up from 4
Caldwell County was at 16.1 up from 4.2
Iredell County, 14.2 up from 4
Wilkes County reported 11.6, up from 4.7
Statewide in April, unemployment was reported at 12.5 compared to 4.3 in March.
