A devastating lightening strike destroyed a home west of Taylorsville on Saturday.
Around 2:30 pm a bolt of lightening struck a residence on Herman Road. Firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched but the brick structure was gutted. Five people were treated for smoke inhalation, one was admitted to a hospital for treatment. Two pets perished.
Update
Alexander County Fire Marshall Chris Hicks said this morning that as of earlier today, one person remains in a hospital due to smoke inhalation. He also stated that a very powerful strike in the area was confirmed by the National Weather Service and the NC Forest Service.
