Alexander County Election Filing Period Begins Monday

The Alexander County Board of Elections has announced the candidate filing period for the 2026 elections begins today at 12:00 noon. Filing ends on December 19 at 12:00 noon.

Local contests include: NC Senate – District 36 (2-year term), $139.51 filing fee; NC House – District 94 (2-year term), $139.51 filing fee; Board of Commissioners – 3 seats (4-year term), $134.02 filing fee; Clerk of Superior Court (4-year term), $1,117.26 filing fee; Register of Deeds (4-year term), $730.10 filing fee; Sheriff (4-year term), $1,138.71 filing fee; and Board of Education – Districts 2, 3, 4, 6 (4-year term), $10 filing fee.

Candidates for state senator, state representative, county offices, and local offices must file in the county in which they are registered. Candidates for US House and all judicial offices file at the NC State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement.

The general candidacy requirements are: must be a registered voter of the county, must be at least 21 years of age on election day, and must be eligible to vote for the office in which you intend to file. Those filing should bring a valid NC driver’s license or photo ID and payment (cash is only accepted for filing fees under $50; otherwise, an individual’s check or money order). To run for office, candidates must organize a campaign committee.

The statewide primary election is set for Tuesday, March 3. The general election is set for Tuesday, November 3.
